Pompa Lumpur?

Pompa Sentrifugal merupakan penemuan terbesar di bidang fluida. Pompa yang pertamaberkembang adalah positive discplacement pump (PD pump), Namun kapasitasnya sangatterbatas.
Dengan pompa sentrifugal, air dapat digunakan untuk kapasitas jauh lebih besar. Desainnya jauh lebih simple sehingga bisa lebih murah.
Cara kerjanya berbeda dengan pompa PD, yaitu membanting lumpur menggunakan gayasentrifugal. Cara kerja inilah yang membuat pompa sentrifugal unggul, namun juga memilikikelemahan ketika memompa cairan yang lebih kental.
Kalau tangan kita terkena lumpur, kemudian kita kibaskan agar lumpur itu terlepas (dengan gayasentrifugal), maka makin kental lumpur tersebut, makin besar usaha kita. Tapi kalau kitamendorong lumpur dengan tangan, maka usaha kita tidak akan jauh berbeda antara mendoronglumpur kental dan lumpur encer. Justru ketika encer terjadi backflow, yaitu lumpur yang keluar lewat sela-sela tangan.
